GDC Bruins Build From the Net Out

The protected lists have been sent in and the GDC Bruins have protected 5 centers and 2 goalies. "I have said in the past that goalies are the MOST valuable piece of a winning hockey team", GM MacCormack was quoted minutes after the lists were announced. "Luongo and Dipietro will combine to give us world-class goaltending again this year." he added.

"Our second strength is up the middle. We have five top quality centers, three of whom are 22 years of age or under. We're set at center for years to come." In Marc Savard, Patrice Bergeron, and Phil Kessel, the Bruins have the top 3 centers of the parent Boston Bruins organization - who should be much improved this year now that they have a legitimate first-string goaltender in Fernandez.

When asked if he attempted to acquire Fernandez, MacCormack answered, "Yes, we made a pitch for him, but in the end, GM Shannon of the Shamrocks was unwilling to part with such a great player." MacCormack added, "Shannon did offer us Alexander Ovechkin for Dipietro, but we unanimously rejected that idea immediately."

After being asked if he was worried about not having a first round selection in the ongoing regular season draft, MacCormack replied, "We got our man Savard last year. No, we're not worried one bit. We have the 23rd overall pick and we have acquired the #26 overall pick from GM Byrne. There are many excellent players available thanks to a few GMs protecting some very marginal players. With our excellent scouts, we should be able to get two point-per-game players with those picks which should more than compensate for not having a first rounder."

Stay tuned for more details of the draft as they come in...
