Murray Estatic to be Back With B's

Glen Murray was starting to get worried. Well into the fourth round of the GDHL draft, the GDC Bruins had still not called his name. Some excitement had developed in the first round when the Bruins, without a first round pick after the trade for Savard early last season, made a trade to move up into the first round. "This is it!" Murray exclaimed, only to be met with disappointment when the Bruins named Daymond Lankow their first pick.

But that was a long time ago. Rounds 2 and 3 passed as well and Murray was met with more disappointment. "I really enjoyed playing with Savard last year." Murray explained, "All I have to do is stand in front of the net and he gets me the puck. It is an easy way to earn 4 million bucks."

And stand is what he did do for most of the season. Until the final month when he injured himself, causing the Bruins offense to become anemic, resulting in a second place finish for the Bruins.

Murray had almost given up hope of playing with his friend again, when he heard the Bruins call his name. Murray was estatic. "I don't know what to say...", Murray said with effort, tears rolling down his cheek. "I'll prove to GM Mike that I can stay healthy for the entire year. We'll get first place this year, I promise!". As he was leaving the podium, Murray missed the top step and tumbled down the stairs. As he was being carried away strapped to a stretcher, he yelled "I'll be better for November Mike, I promise!".

GDHL Trading Conspiracy De-rails Draft

Breaking News: A conspiracy in the GDHL has just been uncovered that reaches all the way to the Commisioner of the league!

Just as the online regular season draft was finally starting to speed up, GM Adam Byrne made this seemingly innocent trade with fellow GM Kevin Kwasny:

Adam trades his 2nd pick (14th overall) and Trevor's 7th pick (77th overall) to Kevin for his 1st pick (#12 overall)

Commisioner MacCormack immediately approved the trade and the draft continued with Adam selecting forward Michalek of San Jose.

Soon after the selection, GM Ihor Triska, who is still on his scouting mission in the tribes of Australia, heard of the transaction and immediately contacted all the GMS and the Commisioner to inform them that the trade violates Section 638493 of Charter law 65232353335 subsection 1232352144 which states that GMs cannot trade more than 20% of their draft picks in a single year. Reluctantly, MacCormack was forced to reject the trade and also GM Byrne's selection.

A formal investigation has been launched to determine whether criminal charges will be laid against any of the GMs involved or Commisioner MacCormack.

Stay tuned for breaking news on this story as it develops...

GDC Bruins Build From the Net Out

The protected lists have been sent in and the GDC Bruins have protected 5 centers and 2 goalies. "I have said in the past that goalies are the MOST valuable piece of a winning hockey team", GM MacCormack was quoted minutes after the lists were announced. "Luongo and Dipietro will combine to give us world-class goaltending again this year." he added.

"Our second strength is up the middle. We have five top quality centers, three of whom are 22 years of age or under. We're set at center for years to come." In Marc Savard, Patrice Bergeron, and Phil Kessel, the Bruins have the top 3 centers of the parent Boston Bruins organization - who should be much improved this year now that they have a legitimate first-string goaltender in Fernandez.

When asked if he attempted to acquire Fernandez, MacCormack answered, "Yes, we made a pitch for him, but in the end, GM Shannon of the Shamrocks was unwilling to part with such a great player." MacCormack added, "Shannon did offer us Alexander Ovechkin for Dipietro, but we unanimously rejected that idea immediately."

After being asked if he was worried about not having a first round selection in the ongoing regular season draft, MacCormack replied, "We got our man Savard last year. No, we're not worried one bit. We have the 23rd overall pick and we have acquired the #26 overall pick from GM Byrne. There are many excellent players available thanks to a few GMs protecting some very marginal players. With our excellent scouts, we should be able to get two point-per-game players with those picks which should more than compensate for not having a first rounder."

Stay tuned for more details of the draft as they come in...

GDHL News: Pool Expert Experiencing Delays

In an email today Pool Expert told me they are experiencing delays implementing the new features for the upcoming season. This means that we won't be able to activate our league pool until later this week.

"We are still working on some final features for the up coming season. You will be able to reactivate your pool late this week. However to reactive your pool it will be the first step where you instead of selecting what type of pool you want you will select the option of launching a previous pool."

Hopefully this delay will not prevent GMs from making their initial entry draft selection.

GDHL News: Regular Season Draft to be Online

The GDHL August 27 draft will no longer take place on August 27. An email draft will be used in its place to restock the teams. The email draft will start as soon as all the protected lists are announced. If the email draft is not completed by September 24, a meeting will be held in that day to finish the drafting.

Because of this, a slight change to free agency needs to be made. Until the start of the NHL regular season, GMs will be able to sign four (4) free agents per week (one per day). Once the NHL season starts, only two (2) free agents per week may be signed.

GDHL News: Location of Aug 27 Draft Still TBD

It is now confirmed that GM Ihor Triska WILL be in Australia for the draft on August 27. Rumours are surfacing that he is scouting a young hot shot Aboriginal Australian. Triska will either be participating in the draft via email, or he will send his Assistant GM (i.e., his wife) in his place.

On a related note, GM Ken Kyswaty may also be unavailable for the draft as he may allow his paternal duties to interfere with his GM responsibilites. Kyswaty has graciously offered to consult with his Assistant GM concerning the use of his personal office. More information to follow shortly...

GDHL News: Pool Expert FINALLY Persistent

Pool Expert recently told me the good news that our league pool will be reactivated on Monday, August 20. That also happens to be the day all of our protected lists are due. When all the lists have been received, I will release all the unprotected players into the free agent market so that this list will be available for the upcoming regular season draft.
